Back Pain Clinic Cambridge

Back Pain Clinic

Back and neck pain are one of the most common problems encountered by physiotherapists.

The spine is the work horse of the body, supporting our head to our pelvis. Our lifestyles and increased sitting times lead to postural strains and pains. We treat all conditions from simple back pain, degenerative disc disease, spondylosis, sciatica, to post surgeries e.g. discectomy, laminectomy.

Our physiotherapists will carefully assess your signs and symptoms and then discuss with you a plan of treatment. The therapist will liaise with your GP or Consultant as required so that the best possible outcome is achieved.

Frequently Asked Questions

At the 1st appointment the physiotherapist will want to know about your back pain and how it is affecting you, your relevant medical history and any medication you are taking.

They will then complete a physical assessment where they will look at your posture, movements, test your muscles and see how your joints move.

Your physiotherapist will then discuss with you what they think is happening and why and discuss the plan for treatment.

Physiotherapy may consist of exercises, hands-on treatments, muscle techniques, taping, advice, acupuncture/dry needling.

Anyone from age 6 to 106 can benefit from physiotherapy! We treat musculoskeletal injuries such as back pain, tennis elbow, following surgery or if you feel you are struggling with your usual activities. See the conditions page for more details.

If you’re unsure if we can help you, please give us a call and we can discuss this with you.

The initial appointment consists of an assessment and start of treatment and lasts up to 45 minutes. Follow-ups are up to 30 minutes.

We do have longer appointments if your condition is complex, or you have more than 1 area to treat. This means the initial assessment is up to 1 hour and the follow-up is 45 minutes.

This will vary depending on the condition, how long you have had it and any contributing factors.

At the first appointment, your physiotherapist will discuss roughly how many appointments they think you will need but this may change depending on your progress.

Physiotherapy is rarely painful. It is important during treatment that if you are experiencing pain or discomfort that you tell your physiotherapist so they can adapt what they are doing, so that you are more comfortable.

This varies depending on your condition and how long you have had the problem. We like to get you better as soon as possible so we can get you back to doing the things you love to do!

Discuss with your physiotherapist but sometimes massage with our massage therapist can be useful alongside physiotherapy, to optimise your recovery.
